CWA BARGAINING UPDATE ENVOY AIR
October 21, 2016
On October 20-21 your bargaining committee met with the Envoy bargaining committee.
The meeting started with the company passing counter proposals on discipline and discharge, reduction in force, and union security. An advisory committee representative, Tom Robertson, and Julie Cowgur made a statement to the company saying how hard members work, how the industry is making record profits, and yet Envoy would not give the annual raise. Robertson and Cowgur told the company how important the raise is to members and asked the company to reconsider. The company responded by saying that they recognized and appreciated all the hard work done by members and were impressed with the number of signatures collected. Legally they are taking the position that they should not give the raise at this time, and it will be part of the package at the end of bargaining.
CWA presented proposals on physical exams, leaves of absence, reduction in force, and discipline and discharge. The company and the union signed an agreement on discipline and discharge. This article entitles a member to have a steward at a meeting that could lead to discipline and ensures that no discipline will be issued without just cause or later than thirty (30) days after the occurrence.
We had other discussions regarding safety on charter flights, furloughs at LAX, and uniforms. The company is working with American Airlines to identify the problem with the new uniforms and is working on a survey to be sent to members soon to collect information.
The next bargaining dates are December 13-15.
